Yoga One

YOGA GETS SOUNDTRACK…
By: Quango

Yoga One is a collection of world, dub, and chillout meditative grooves consciously chosen and sequenced by experienced yoga teachers to enhance yoga and life.  Each track was selected by Yoga One founders and owners Amy and Michael Caldwell to follow the arc and flow of classes at their downtown San Diego interdisciplinary Hatha yoga studio.
No strangers to music, both Amy and Michael began their career paths working in corporate music, where the couple first met.  While traveling in Asia, the Caldwells discovered the joys and benefits of yoga and became committed to sharing the experience upon their return.  Since the opening of Yoga One in 2002, the Caldwell’s have continued to fulfill their dream of facilitating well-being by offering a variety of yoga disciplines. Along the way, they have garnered acclaim from Shape Magazine, USAToday.com, NBC, Yoga Journal and others.
A desire to combine their love of music and yoga inspired the Caldwells to reach out to Quango Music Group. The taste-making Los Angeles based label maintains a deep chillout catalog and is known for creating lifestyle compilations for companies like Cirque du Soleil, Da-Nang Surplus clothing, and American Rag Cie.
Yoga One— in addition to being a fantastic, mood-enhancing listen—is also a yoga class. An easy to follow sequence of yoga poses is included in the CD’s case. Yoga One begins with the lush, African and classical influenced vocals of Bliss’ “Dunia.” The atmosphere is set to transition to a more mindful state and stress immediately begins to melt away. Former Café Del Mar and Real Ibiza DJ Phil Mison (Cantoma) weaves a delightful tapestry of Balearic chillout sounds on “Cosmopole”, inspiring fluid movement and deeper breath as the body warms with the practice of the sun salutations (surya namaskar). Los Angeles duo Bitter:Sweet (as heard in Devil Wears Prada) provides gentle guidance with “Don’t Forget to Breathe”, while Thievery Corporation’s rendition of “Satyam Shivam Sundaram feat. Gunjan” (meaning “truth is God and God is beautiful”) aides heightened consciousness. Perform standing poses, which promote strength and balance, to the lively Indian rhythms of Zeb, Christophe Goze, and MIDIval PunditZ. Settle into the groove and greater awareness listening to Zero 7’s tripped out instrumental “Red Dust.” Bliss’s hypnotic melody says, “Breathe” as hips and hamstrings open in seated poses. Inspiring vocals from Sophie Barker (also known for work with Zero 7) remind listeners to be the change they wish to see in the world. Through backbends and supine poses, Tosca’s textured dub keeps the attention on the present and helps eradicate any remaining tension. During inverted poses, Bliss’ jubilant “Song for Olabi” supports a new perspective. The ambient pulsing of Tuu’s “All our Ancestors” unites past and present and is the heartbeat of final relaxation (savasana). This is the time to completely let go of all thoughts and any remaining tension.
We are extensions of all our ancestors. We are all united. The Yoga One adventure is complete as you become One. Listen often and be well.
Yoga One. The soundtrack to yoga and life.
