The Scene Report: Las Vegas

VEGAS BABY! VEG-AHH SHUT UP.

So hopefully by now you’ve seen the ad for Smash Magazine’s Gutterball Bowling Tournament. The lanes will be packed August 27th and 28th with industry types, label folk, rock bands, and your run of the mill hoodlums. Haven’t registered yet? Space is limited and this will sell out! Don’t be that guy. Head to the website at www.smashmagazine.com for more info.

Pinke’s has shut their doors after years of local music and pool table player support. The property located on Flamingo just west of the I-15 is believed to be another site for more of the condominiums that will rival Las Vegas’s mega-resort skyline in the not so distant future.

Kid Deposit Triumph has been in the studio recording their debut full length. Look for that one out sometime this summer.

The word is out that the famous Huntridge Theatre has shut down their website and will furthermore be shutting down all hopes of re-opening the venue. Gossip suggests that the project to renovate the venue has simply run out of funding. Hopefully this wont be the last we hear of Las Vegas’s most notorious musical landmark.

In other venue woe’s, Gameworks arcade on the strip has stopped having shows at least for the time being. Bands that suck and kids running a muck lead to management not giving a…uh…right.

The Opera (former members of Rich Tradition) may have found a permanent drummer in former This Virus Makes Us Human stick-man Jameson. For music fresh off the hard drive, log on to www.myspace.com/theopera ...jeezus, is everybody on myspace?

Jaz and the Notes have been seen regularly performing at the Ice House for various fashion shows and First Friday events. Remember kids, First Friday’s happen at the beginning of each month showcasing all kinds of art in the downtown district.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and band mates of the late Anias bassist Ryan Stevens. Friends believe that Ryan passed away in his sleep due to an overdose.

The Scorpion Radio Network has announced “The Local Insight.” Log on to www.scorpradio.com for more info. The show includes a 15 minute feature on local up and coming talent.

863,000 more copies of the Killers “Hot Fuss” will have been purchased by the time you read this message.

Independent record shop Balcony Lights has come dangerously close to going dark. They need your support if you want to continue to have the finest selection of G.G. Allin cd’s in Nevada.

MTV’s filming their “Summer on the Strip” series here in Sin City and you’re stoked. Grab your trucker hat and some eyeliner and head to the pool at the Hard Rock for one of their daily tapings of TRL.

Divided They Fall have found their new lead singer. For more head to www.dividedtheyfall.com The band is currently recording new material with their new guy. Look for the band playing warped tour on the Kevin Says stage in Phoenix, AZ on June 29th.

In other Warped Tour news, local kids GDB look to be performing at the Salt Lake City date. Dunno about this one but it says they’ll be playing the Shira Girl stage? Yeah, so find it, find them, and uh…find yourself.

Hardcore act Folsom have announced their summer touring plans. Look for the band to play through the better part of July with dates on the west coast leading as far east as St. Louis. No East Coast dates have been announced as of yet.

Smash Magazine sends our best wishes to former bydeathsdesign merch girl Crystal Merten in her battle against cancer. A recent benefit concert held at Gameworks by Xtreme Radio, NeedMerch.com and Pricz Tattoo raised more than $4000 for her.

Could a small handful of local acts be signing deals? Rumors include interest from Universal, Victory, EqualVision, EastWest and more…we’ll keep you posted ;)
