Radioheads: the new Xtreme Team
by: homie

Many of you know me. You know that in addition to bringing you interviews with everyone from Jimmy Eat World to Thrice, I also have a day job with KXTE-fm Las Vegas, better known until just recently as Xtreme Radio. On Monday afternoon, August 1st, our angry little station in the desert made a few adjustments and became X107.5, Xtreme “Rock” Radio, introducing the more traditional rock oriented sound to Las Vegas that we had in years past. Along with the music adjustments, comes a brand new show to the Vegas Valley. They’re called the Xtreme Disorder. New arrivals from South Carolina, the trio have already taken a more risqué approach to gaining the audiences attention…they actually focus on entertaining rather than subscribe to the school of “less talk, more rawk.” Say hello and get to know Attention Deficit Dave, Brian Black and Lemmy the Gopher, a fresh twist to afternoon radio in the city of entertainment.

SM: Guys, there’s definitely a fascination with food amongst you. What are the good things you’re looking for and what’s with the obsession over Sweet Tea? (What the hell is Sweet Tea?)

Brian Black: First off, let me say sweet tea is like jazz. If I have to explain it, you won’t understand.
Attention Deficit Dave: The fascination with food mostly lies with Lemmy.
Lemmy: God Dammit I’m hungry.

SM: The station has a very prominent history though we’ve heard a lot of changes lately. Where are things headed? What do you hope to bring to the listeners of Las Vegas radio?

ADD: Entertaining radio is what he hope to bring. Our brand of humor isn’t too serious, too political, or too intellectual. We just want listeners to be able to relate and have a good time when listening to our show.
BB: As far as where things are headed: I love the music on Xtreme Rock Radio. It’s by far one of the most aggressive stations in the country – I think we’re headed in the right direction.

SM: Lemmy, you’ve performed several songs on-air in the past few weeks from “Thanks For Bangin’ the Skanks” to “Put It In Your Mouth.” What is your inspiration? What motivates you to write these songs that transcend land and time? What else are you working on?

L: I’ve always been intrigued by skanks, and sausage. They complete me.
As far as new material, I just wrote a song for my new girlfriend that was inspired by my ex. It’s called “Why Don’t You Take It Up The Ass Like Janice Did?”
ADD: I smell a grammy. At least I think that’s what I smell…..

SM: You do a lot to add content to your show, it’s not something an ordinary dj in Vegas does. Who comes up with most of the content? Who runs mission control? Who’s the boss of things?

ADD: I am.
BB: I am.
L: I am.

SM: Is this something that just came together one day or a show you guys have been doing for a while? How long have you each been doing radio for now?

ADD: Our show developed over several years in South Carolina on WARQ-FM. Brian joined my show from a sister station, and we found Lemmy floating down the river in a large basket made of reeds. We adopted him as our own and the show was complete.

SM: Finally, This magazine is dedicated to new music. What are some of your latest favorites? Are there bands you are into that you wont hear on the show?

ADD: I love a lot of the guitar driven rock like Crossfade, Shinedown, Disturbed and Trapt. I also like a lot of the off the wall stuff like you hear on “It Hurts When I Pee.”
(Damn shameless plug! Here’s your $5)
BB: I’m leaning back toward the aggressive stuff like Mudvayne, System Of A Down, and also Disturbed. But my tastes are very eclectic.
L: God Dammit I’m hungry. Is “Pringles” a band?
