The hottest dude you ever saw? You’re goddamn right he is… and I’m straight! Nevertheless, uber-pretty lead singer Mark Weiss is no Backstreet Boy, in fact I’m sure he could beat Justin Timberlake’s ass with his own mic. You would have a higher than average ego too if you were a part of one of San Diego’s most popular and talented bands. It’s not even a band really… it’s more like a force, a multiple award winning force.

Collectively known as 3against1, this hard rock phenomenon consists of the soulful lyrics of the aforementioned Weiss, the blindingly fast guitar playing of Arnaud Lemaire, and the driving rhythms of bassist Steve Adams and drummer Mike Rawluk. How good are they, you ask? Formed in 2001, 3against1 has already had it’s singles “Broken”, “A Day In The Life”, and “Monster” on local San Diego radio. As this was happening they went on to win the 2004 San Diego Music Awards for “Best Rock Band” and are nominated again this year. They have had the honor of playing the Whiskey a Go-Go and the Viper Room. Not enough proof? There is plenty more where that came from.

Ever play THQ’s MX Unleashed 2004? Check the band credits next time and you’ll find “It’s Over”, one of the newest singles, in there. MTV decided to get in on it and put the song on The Real World San Diego and Road Rules ’04. They have a song on the “Cruel World” soundtrack, they played at the Access Hollywood Superbowl party, and if things couldn’t get any better, Budweiser recently signed them as their “True Music Live” band for San Diego. Now who doesn’t enjoy free booze?

Despite the relatively accelerated rise to popularity, founders Weiss and Lemaire say that they saw it all coming. They knew right away that they had something special going for them, so this is not so much a surprise as it a reward for being talented, innovative, and photogenic all at the same time.

These guys get to play with a pretty diverse group of acts too. I can see Pepper and Soulcracker, maybe even The Pharcyde. But hip-hop legends Naughty by Nature, Coolio, and even KRS-One took an interest in them as well. 3against1 is not your typical collection of musicians but a stroke of good fortune that is poised for the next step, which is fame. I’m going to make them take me with them…no really, I’m serious.

Upcoming events for 3against1 include:
September 2nd @ Blind Mellons in Pacific Beach
September 9th @ Canes in Mission Beach
