Takin it to the Streets
For the last ten years I have been on the streets
of Las Vegas working behind the scenes of our local
music biz. Chances are, if you have gotten a flyer
for a concert, it has come from me or someone on my
team. While we are out and about, we get to hear about
a lot of cool stuff. This month I asked you: I want
to know what you think of the current state of our
music scene. Is it rockin? Does it suck? Are there
great bands in town? Do they all suck? Who are your
favorites? I want to hear from you! Tell me what you
think!

“My music scene kicks ass. But I am growns
so I go to bar shows. I’m sure it's different
for the kids and the kids are what its all about!
Almost any night I go out I see some one good. My
favorites? Skorchamenza and Black Camaro.”

“There's no lack of talent in Vegas, there
are some good, even great bands in town...The Dirty
Babies,The Holy Smokes... even the Black Jetts are
good. That being said, the problem with the "scene"
is that everything is so disjointed, nobody wants
to work together to make the scene fun again. Everybody
has bullshit qualms with other bands and their members.
The one time bands tried to get together and form
a "coalition" to work together it never
even made it to the first meeting because of people's
stupid hang ups. Our band plays with anyone and any
style we don't need to make any personal judgments,
just to play rock and roll, and isn't that what it's
all about!! Hokie Pokie!”

”If only there were more rich land owners that
actually gave a crap about culture and art instead
of capitalizing off it. It would be great to have
a non profit venue or area where a donation of canned
foods or bottled water would be admission. The small
amphitheatre concrete area at Huntridge Park or the
one at UNLV would be cool. Get all types of musicians,
standup comics, poets, activists, etc to share the
stage and encourage anyone who's a spectator to get
up on stage too.”
Kenny Bean

”Our music scene really sucks right now. There
is no where for local bands to play except rock n
java. We need more venues. There are a lot of good
bands in this city, but there is no where to play
so a lot of them aren't known. My favorites are probably
Lynch Thy Beauty, Brown Eyed Deception, Misericordiam,
and Molotov Solution. I like pretty much all the LVHC
bands and other bands like BED.”

“I think the local music scene is good and
it pisses me of when kids say it sucks because those
are the kids who don’t take the time to check
out the local scene. The bands and the kids who support
the scene make it great. It’s always awesome
to go to a show and hear local bands play and meet
new kids who are into the same thing I am. Some of
the bands that make it great are Panic At The Disco,
Flying From Friday, The Collection, Sitting Pretty…
just to name a few.”

“Especially in the past year or two, Las Vegas
bands have grown a lot and are becoming well known.
I love seeing people from the east coast talk about
PANIC! At The Disco or Brown Eyed Deception. The one
thing I hate, is that we have no good venues to host
anything.”

“I would have to say that the music scene this
month isn’t too rockin’ because my band
hasn’t had any shows. Its boring cause playing
shows is the one thing that makes me stay in that
band hahaha! But yeah, there could be better bands
in town this month is ehhh alright. I guess but it
could be better.”
Nik Johnson
Centennial High School
”The music scene is alright. I believe the
Vegas music scene could be better. I think the best
band in Vegas is this rock band called Verbatym!!
They are crazy live and they are amazing! You guys
should sign em or something haha!”
