Forever in Fall

BY: JASON PADILLA

Four years ago, four guys had a dream that pursuing music and starting a serious rock band was to be their calling. The only problem – half of these guys didn’t know each other and they lived a thousand miles apart. Four years later, this dream has since turned into a reality better than anyone had imagined. The story all started in Los Angeles, California, the birthplace of entertainment, traffic and Forever In Fall - a four piece band that sounds like a rocking mix of The Police, Jimmy Eat World and The Cure.

While no members are originally from Los Angeles, the drive to form a band and become better musicians brought three of the original members of Forever In Fall together at the Musicians Institute (MI), located in Hollywood. MI, a music college known for turning students into music professionals and top selling artists was the answer to Forever In Fall’s problems.
Guitarist and lead singer Ola Shaw left his home in Maui, Hawaii for the smog of Los Angeles. Guitarist Aaron Beuchter waved goodbye to the Colorado Rockies for the city, and drummer Ben Forman moved from the central coast. Together, the three musicians started jamming in a small Los Angeles practice room and their chemistry was undeniable. The only thing missing was another guitar player.

“Finding another guitarist that myself and the band could mesh with took some time and we went through several temporary members,” said guitarist Beuchter. And after trying out four or five players, a suggestion came from the drummer. A suggestion by the name of Seth Rhine, Forman’s childhood friend and band member of several teenage bands they together formed.
At the time, Rhine was a student at the University of California at Santa Barbara and was more than half way through a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Rhine started practicing with Forever In Fall on the weekends and was almost immediately faced with the question.
“They pretty much hit me with the biggest decision I’ve had to make, finish up with school or move to Los Angeles to play in a still developing band,” said Rhine. With ambitions to do something in the music industry since grade school, Rhine packed up everything he needed into a minivan and was sleeping on floors the following week.

Now with four members, the band needed some shows and a recording. They recorded several demo discs at half a dozen studios and eventually recorded their first EP titled, “Don’t Forget” with Gabriel Heredia at Avalon Studios, located in Burbank. Since then, it has been a constant whirlwind of touring and local shows for Forever In Fall.
From the Roxy to house parties, Forever In Fall has played anywhere their music could be heard. Having over one-hundred shows in the greater Los Angeles area alone and completing two self booked, solo tours covering over ten western U.S. states and over 30 cities, the band has developed quite a large and very loyal fan base.

“I love touring,” said lead singer Shaw, “and I love our fans like family, the fact that the four of us can go on tour for over a month and have so many awesome turnouts in other states, I truly am grateful and feel blessed.” Though weeks of self-promotion went on before and during both tours, the band could not appreciate the fans more. “We all feel as if we’ve made lifelong friends on these two tours,” continues Shaw.

Staying true to their roots, Forever In Fall frequently plays at The Green Room Cafe, an intimate venue with great sound located on campus and ran by MI. In return, MI has shown their appreciation by sponsoring a good portion of the band’s second western United States tour. To date, they are the only band to have a tour sponsored by MI.

Event though they have accomplished quite a bit for being a relatively young band, Forever In Fall has no plans of slowing down. While still pushing their first EP, which has sparked interest in a few labels, the band is currently writing and polishing up new songs for a future release.
