From First to Last Interview - Matt guitar/vocals
January 27, 2006
From First to Last is a screamo band with attitude. Guitarist, Matt, describes their music as heavy progressive rock with tattoos. With lyrics of death and murder, you can bet an interesting sound.
FFTL started rocking out about two years ago in sunny Los Angeles. Friends, Matt and Travis started to get together and play a few tunes here and there. Soon after, Sonny and Derek joined. In June 2003, FFTL put out their first EP, Aesthetic, with underground label, Four Leaf Recordings. A year later, FFTL put out their debut album, Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count, with Epitaph Records. Now the band is working on their new album, Heroine. Due out late March. This album is to be greater then the last. “We had a lot more time to work in this record. We knew each other a lot more.” Matt added.
FFTL got to work with some amazing people on this record. From producer Ross Robinson, who has worked with bands like, Glassjaw, Slipknot and the Blood Brothers; to their mixer, Andy Wallace who has worked with Nirvana, System of a Down and Avenged Sevenfold. I got to talk with Matt about working on this album. When asked about the new album, Matt replied, “Working with Ross Robinson was the best thing in the whole world. I couldn’t ask for more. It was awesome working with Andy Wallace too. It was a flattering experience. I mean the guy worked with Nirvana!” FFTL had a guest bassist for the recording of Heroine. Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland helped out the band in the studio. He even wrote a song with them! “It was awesome working with Wes. He is a good friend of ours. The guy gave great advice. He also kept us positive in negative moments.” Matt said, “It was fun to write with him. Kind of weird and crazy but it was intense!”
FFTL will be working with two directors from Sweden on the video for “The Latest Plaque,” the A-side track for this record. They will be filming the music video in Sweden towards the end of February.
FFTL will hit the road again this march. Touring America with Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects and Hawthorne Heights. “This will be the biggest tour we have ever done.” Matt said, “It will be a whole new world.” Be sure to check them out on Thursday, March 30 th at The Joint.
