SMASH- Where are you from?
Brian- I was born in El Paso, but we moved to Juarez Mexico when I was six months old.

SMASH- How long did you live there and what is it like?
Brian- I lived there for like 13 years. It’s dangerous there you know. There are a lot of gangsters and you get into fights all the time.

SMASH- So if you get into a bad spot, can you call the police?
Brian- No, that don’t work. They wont do anything. Last time I went on vacation there we got stopped by the cops, and nobody had a license or anything. We gave the cop ten bucks and he let us go.

SMASH- Is drug traffic big there?
Brian- Yeah mostly coca, cocaine but they sell everything.

SMASH- How often do you go back to visit?
Brian- I go to Mexico every year for about two weeks. My whole family still lives there. My uncle Anchondo takes us to strip clubs and even though we are too young, they let us in because he knows everyone. We stay at my aunt Silvia’s. She has a big house out on a ranch.

SMASH- Is there skating in Juarez?
Brian- Yes, but it’s hard to skate because the streets are mostly made of dirt.

SMASH- Are there animals running in the streets?
Brain- Yeah, there are chickens and dogs and pigs.

SMASH- What do you miss the most about Mexico?
Brian- The girls, there lots of girls. And they want to get with you if you’re from a place like Las Vegas. And they are pretty fine so I don’t mind. But it’s hard to be a girl in Juarez cause they rape and kill you. Like 300 women and girls get killed there every year. But still, over there, you can just go up and talk to a girl. Over here, the girls are conceited. The girls are dicks.

SMASH- Will you ever go back there to live?
Brian- I don’t think so. When I lived there it was cool. But once you get used to the way we live here you don’t want to go back.

SMASH- Would you give us some examples?
Brian- When I go to school here, my parents give me five dollars a day. Over there, I would get five pesos, which is like fifty cents. And the houses over there are kind of messed up. When it rains, the water leaks in everywhere. Oh and the food is better here too.

SMASH- Oh, pleases don’t tell me that.
Brian- Well, the home made food is better in Juarez, but we have Burger King here. At Christmas time, my mom makes tamales and bunuelos. And my mom’s tamales are better than fast food. But mostly I prefer fast food.

SMASH- You do know your mom’s food is healthier don’t you?
Brian- Yeah, but I’ll take my chances.
