Being
in Happy Campers is the most exciting thing to ever
happen in my life. I've pretty much grown up being in
the band. It's my family, my job, my life and my passion.
The first time I wrote a song, we played in front of
people, I heard myself on CD, played to a huge crowd,
saw someone wearing one of our shirts, saw someone singing
along, being on tour, the first time someone told me
that we were their favorite band, or that one of our
songs helped them get through a hard time in their life,
are all things that I'll never forget and wouldn't trade
for anything in the world. I know there are more first's
around the corner for the Happy Campers. I've seen a
lot of bands pop up and a lot of bands break up. It
always gets me when I see a young band worrying about
how to get on a label, or how they can get famous and
make money. Don't they see? They are looking ahead so
far they can't see what they have.
These are our reasons to be in a band:
To have fun
To make music
To hang with your friends and do something you love.
I have one piece of advice for young bands starting out. Have fun and enjoy it! You never know how long it's going to last. There are millions of bands out there. If all you are worried about is making it big then you're in for the wrong reasons and chances are great your band won't last. It's important to set goals, but you must keep things in perspective and take it one step at a time. Enjoy the ride!
Anyway, enough mushy hippie talk. It's time to talk
about Happy Campers and our non-stop quest to get signed,
get famous and make the big bucks. (Wink Wink!) We have
a lot of huge things coming up this year. For starters
we're putting the finishing touches on our OLD SKOOL
E.P. that we'll be releasing in Marc
h
26 at Jillian's, as part of the Extreme Thing event
Pre Party with our friends: FFI and The Matches. It's
a collection of older songs that we reworked and a few
that never made it on to our other CD's for one reason
or another. We'll also be performing on the UNLV campus
as part of their annual Rebelpalooza in April with NOFX.
Plus, we were selected for the first leg of the Van’s
Warped Tour 2004. So we'll be doing all the Texas and
New Mexico dates and hopefully we'll get added to the
second leg as well. We'll be hitting up some dates in
Canada, so we'll be able to add another first to our
list by playing in another country. We also will be
working on our first music video. We'll be record ing
everything that happens to us for the entire year and
release a DVD later in the year on what it's like to
be an independent band on tour and all the hijinxs that
goes along with it. Sound like another busy and exciting
year? We think so!
We'll be adding a lot of firsts to our lists this year and hopefully you guys will do the same... just don't let it be the first time you wake up on a prison floor in Mexico next to a big guy named Senor Bubba with no pants on!
