In
the November of 2003, Smash Magazine - Las Vegas' newest
music/culture/extreme sports magazine erupted onto the
Vegas Valley's scene, showcasing the best in local and
regional talent. Since its inception, Smash has become
a household name. Bands and labels from all over the
country now regularly bombard Smash's editors with requests
for features. Ads practically sell themselves. Tie-ins
with major local events like Extreme Thing, Rebelpalooza,
the AmJam series, and the upcoming Warped Tour, a close
association with Vegas' historic Huntridge Theatre,
Jillian’s of Las Vegas and support from members of Big
Lizard Records, Xtreme Radio, Shoestring Promotions,
Bogus Productions, NeedMerch.com and SinCitySounds.com
have already helped to cement Smash's place in music
history.
So, what's the successful music/culture magazine to
do now that they've already conquered the Vegas scene?
Why, branch out of course. Smash Magazine has announced
the relaunch of it's website which will still include
all features of the magazine, plus the site will serve
as a home for DIY and signed bands all over the Southwest.
For a small one time (we mean one time as in lifetime)
processing fee, bands from Vegas, Reno, Orange County,
Riverside, Tucson, Phoenix, and San Diego will be able
to upload a band picture, bio, upcoming shows, create
their own photo gallery, sell their music or merchandise
online and upload 2 MP3s to give the DIY artist a place
to call home. Each band will be issued a unique login
and password, and will be able to make changes on their
own, all done in real time. WWW.smashmagazine.com
will also serve as a resource for bands to trade shows
with other bands in surrounding areas. The easy-to-use
website's "Resource s" feature will be a listing of
labels, promotions companies, and management companies
in each individual city. The plan is to become a one-stop
web site, where you can get news, learn about other
bands, cities, show dates or booking gigs, and trading
shows. So far, several local Vegas bands have signed
up, including FFI, Happy Campers, 12 Volt Sex, Over
The Line, bydeathsdesign, and Sarah Theil. Once word
gets out, expect to see all of the Southwest's best
and brightest bands on the site.
