How did Divided They Fall start?

Zack: Well Derek and I met at a tattoo shop. We started talking and slowly came together after that.

(Derek is sitting back smelling his shoe, which he thinks smells new. However, everyone else in the room is having doubts about that)

Brandan: What the fuck are you doing?

Derek: Th-they still have the new shoe smell.

What kind of music would you classify Divided They Fall as?

Brandan: Post Hardcore

Zach: We're punk rock, fucking punk.

Derk: I like boobies.

Brandan: (in a high pitched voice) I'm EJ, we're hardcore.

How would you describe your live show to someone who has never seen you before?

Brandan: Honestly, a lot of our shows, you just have to see. They are ridiculous, and off the chain.You guys just got done recording, how did that go?

Brandan: We recorded at Platinum Sound Lab.

How long were you in the studio for?

Zack: Too long, about a month.

Derek: We forgot our songs are five minutes a piece.

Brandan: Derk is new to the band.

Derk: Yeah, I wasn't here for this, so that's why I'm not talking.

When did you get involved in the band, Derk?

Derk: I've known the other Derek in the band for about 8 years. He was my older brothers friend. I was in another band and our bands were friends. We broke up, and DTF need a guitarist. I played and they liked me...

Brandan: It was love at first sight.

Derk: Yeah, then we did it.

(out of nowhere)

Brandan: I quit the band.

Derek: Why?

Brandan: I don't know. I'm back in.

So what are you plans for 2005?

Everyone: To take over the world.

Brandan: Our plans for 2005 is to play as many shows as possible. Possibly mid or late 05, we want to record again. Look for a lot of shows.

What's your writing process like? How do you guys come up with the songs you do?
Derek: Holy crap shit.

Brandan: As of song writing, speaking for EJ, family experiences. There's not too many songs about girls. There is one song about a girl, and it's not all fucking emo.

Zack: It's pretty evil.

Brandan: It's like "I'll hang you from the highest tree"

Derek: Somebody fucked up.

What's some of your individual influences?

Zack: Metallica! But lately it's been Taking Back Sunday, Unearth, Underoath is fucking great, and Casket Lottery.

Derek: Rancid and AFI. But lately everyone's been emo and hardcore, so I have to follow the crowd and go with Atreyu, Underoath and all them.

Brandan: I'd have to say some Poison the Well.

Derek: Word.

Brandan: From First to Last...

Derek: Senses Fail

Brandan: That's for Derek. I love As I Lay Dying and hardcore bands like that. I love the modern shit right now. I'm diggin the Muse right now. They are really good.

Zack: A lot of people would think that we like that kind of music, but sometimes we jam to Pink Floyd.

Derk: Van Halen. Because Eddie plays guitar really well. From First to Last (which at this point, they all agree on), Pennywise, Eric Clapton. It's not that it influences, me, but it inspires me to write. All that cock-rock shit. Poison...

Derek: Is he still going?

Derk: I've only gone through late 70's crap. I'm only on 79.'

If you could play with anyone dead or alive, who would you play...

Derek: (interrupts) AFI

With?

Zack: Dead or alive...

Derek: AFI, that's my dream to fucking play with AFI

Derk: A Pennywise show would be killer...

Zack: I would kill to go back in time with Led Zeppelin.

Brandan: I would kill just to see Led Zeppelin. I know this is a cliche answer, but mine would be Metallica. Or Guns N' Roses. Or Van Halen.

Where else do you guys wanna hit on tour?

Derek: E-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e

Brandan: I think everyone will agree, overseas.

Derek: (sarcastically) Alaska, big old Alaska. You know, in Juno.

What do you guys think of the local scene?

Brandan: Everyone wants to put on a local show and say this local scene kicks ass. This local scene that do not want to look out for anyone but themselves. A lot bands get to where they are at, with help from other bands. And people in Las Vegas need to realize that. At first when we started out, we tried to help people out. And thank you to those bands that helped us. To the other ones...(ohh I'll never tell, no hard words, just some actions)

Derk: Overall it's pretty shitty.

Brandan: Bide and Time Spent Burning are awesome guys. And ABM...

Derek: Time Spent Burning and us aren't even the same type of music.

What about the kids in the local scene?

Derek: They either hate you or love you.

Brandan: I just hate when I go to a local show, with a good band and there are only 10 kids. I wonder what the fuck is going on here. I think it's changing for the better.

What are some of your hobbies?

Brandan: Play music. Zack, what do you like to do for fun?

Zach: We don't do anything else but play music everyday.

Brandan: The only other thing you can say we do is get tattooed.

Zack: We all snowboard or dirt bike but we can't because we'll brake hands.

Do you any of you hold jobs when not touring?

Everyone: NO!

Zack: I do, because I'm responsible.

(Everyone laughs)

Brandan: Mother Fucker has had a job for three days and now he's all of a sudden responsible.
Any final comments?

Derek: Well... Umm I don't know. Let's go back to the bands thing. We bust our ass and in return a lot of bands don't like us.

Brandan: But we love you! Mauh!

Derek: But we really bust our asses, it might not look like it from the outside world, but we do work really hard what we do. It's shitty when bands hate on you because you're traveling and playing music at the same time. Oh yeah, and Zack's the most beautiful thing you'll ever see.

Brandan: OK no, now you're just being modest. I'm the most gorgeous.
